Walk-in showers
Walk-In Shower Remodels
Model Home builds walk-in showers. A walk-in shower replaces a tub or an old shower enclosure with a tiled shower you step straight into.
The tile is the part you see, but the waterproofing behind it and the slope of the floor to the drain decide how well it holds up. We plan the layout, waterproofing, tile and fixtures as one project. Compare shower and floor tile at our showroom.
Tub-to-shower conversions
Tub-to-Shower Conversions
Model Home converts bathtubs to showers. A tub-to-shower conversion removes the bathtub and builds a shower in its place, often a walk-in shower that is easier to step into.
Plumbing changes
It often means moving the drain and changing the shower valve, so plumbing is a bigger part of the job than a simple tile update.
Keep one tub?
If it's the only bathtub in your home, consider whether you'll miss it. Some families with young children prefer to keep one.
Permits
Do You Need a Permit to Remodel a Bathroom?
It depends on the work. Replacing finishes in place, such as tile, a vanity or a faucet, is different from moving plumbing, changing electrical circuits or altering walls. The City of San Marcos says changes involving structure, plumbing, electrical or mechanical systems likely need a permit.
Who issues the permit depends on where the home is: the City of San Marcos for homes within the city, and the San Diego County Building Division for unincorporated areas such as Lake San Marcos. Homes in other cities, such as Carlsbad, go through that city's building department; see Carlsbad building permits. What does a bathroom remodel include?
